Syrah Grenache 'Creation Estate'
A Rhône blend, but from South Africa. The grapes, Grenache and Syrah, thrive just as well in the Heaven-and-Earth Valley. Flavors of dark fruit, tapenade and a pinch of black pepper come along. Delicious with a lamb curry or a spicy stew.
They call their place a paradise and we understand that. Creation vineyards are located on a plateau in the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in the Walker Bay wine district. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. After that, the traditional fermentation on the skin takes place, followed by a malolactic conversion in oak barrels. The wine is aged for fourteen months, of which 25% in new barrels and the remainder in second and third year oak. Light filtration takes place before the wine is bottled to preserve as many aromas and flavors as possible. The result is a solid blend with lots of dark fruit and that typical syrah pepper in the aftertaste. The wine is now ready to drink, but can be kept for at least another five to seven years.
Hemel en Aarde Vallei, South Africa
Delicious with rib-eye from the BBQ or confit de canard. Also a good match with lamb curry.
A rich Rhône blend with dark fruit, smooth tannins and surprisingly fresh acidity.
