Spier is proud to own most of the Cape's historic Cape Dutch facades. The wines under the label "21 Gables" or "21 Facades" are a tribute to this special historical legacy. Of course these are special wines, which are made in barrels of American and Hungarian oak. This type of oak fits well with the Pinotage, because it gives the wine an exotic vanilla touch. This frames a wine that is undeniably impressive, and which exemplifies the great potential of climate, with a rainfall of no more than 450 millimeters. The vineyards are not irrigated, which creates a great intensity in the taste of the grapes, which are deep in color at the time of harvest. The grapes are rigorously include the best that Spier has to offer. The grapes for this Pinotage are planted in the immediate vicinity of the coast of False Bay, at a distance that varies from 7 to 15 kilometers from the coastline. That makes for a beautifully cool this typical South African grape. selected upon entry and cold maceration before fermentation begins. This ensures that the wine acquires a beautiful intense fruit character. It then ripens for another eighteen months on partly used and partly new.
